Canoe Polo is a canoe ball sport played in teams of five players and up to three substitutes on a still water pitch of 35m x 20m. Players paddle three metre long composite performance kayaks in a 20 minute game comprising two 10 minute halves which is adjudicated by a referee on each side of the pitch.

The object of the game is to score goals worth one point by throwing or paddle-flicking the ball into the oppositions goal frame suspended two metres above the water. A player in possession of the ball may be boat tackled or hand tackled by members of the opposing team.
